Take Ten
I would like to use the following strategy “Take Ten” in my classroom. This will be a way to connect with each student of mines in the classroom. I would take this time to encourage, reward, and learn each student in more depth. This also would be a great time for the students to learn more about me as well, along with interesting ideas that they would like to learn or discuss during class time. Implementing student voices as a tool during this strategy of take ten will give students the confidence to speak their thoughts and ideas in a safe space.
Rationale
According to Tear Down Your Behavior Chart, it is important to take the time to build meaningful relationships with your students. Talk about their interests such as sports, favorite food, or even favorite superhero. We also need to understand their struggles and any fears they may have. Getting to know our students can help guide us to be better teachers. We want to get to know the “Whole Child” inside and outside of school. This can help us plan curriculum, differentiate work, and understand student behaviors. There might be times when there is a language barrier, a non-verbal student, or one that just doesn’t want to talk to you. The biggest challenge is finding the time during the day to meet with all your students (Jung & Smith, 2018).
