Morning Meetings

I would like to implement morning meetings into my daily routine. Morning Meetings will be the first accomplishment of our day. We still start each day with a breathing / yoga exercise to begin our day with great intention. I believe when we as individuals can start our day with intention, we can focus on the goals and task for the day and not feel overwhelmed by what is going to happen next or what may come out of no where. After our breathing exercise, I will pull Popsicle sticks with each child’s name each day and ask if there is something on there mind that they would like to say, or discuss with the group that is appropriate. Following announcements and schedule for the day, so students are aware of what their day consists of.

According to Edutopia, morning meetings create a sense of community, structure, and a feeling of belonging (Edutopia, 2015). It is important to create a positive safe learning environment where your students look forward to coming to every day. Creating active and engaging activities help students now only grow academically but socially. It teaches your students how to be respectful, listen to others, and creates a sense of empathy. Since we live in a diverse melting pot it is important for us to celebrate everybody’s differences. They look forward to coming to class and having that opportunity to share with their classmates. I might face a few challenges because students might not feel comfortable sharing, their first language is not English, or some students may not have the ability to sit still long enough to focus.
